Zeus extrusions include much more than our highly recognized tubing. We also offer multiple drawn fiber products to meet a variety of other application needs. With over a half-century of experience, Zeus has developed the expertise and technology to manufacture high-performance drawn fiber from multiple resins, including ECTFE, ETFE, FEP, Nylons, PEEK, PFA, and PVDF.
Drawn fiber is an improved-performance monofilament that has been stretched, pulled, or drawn down during the manufacturing process. In the melt phase, just prior to extrusion, polymer chains are randomly oriented. As the melted material is forced through the extruder, the polymer chains become more oriented in the direction of extrusion. Drawing, or pulling the monofilament post-extrusion, further orients the polymer chains, resulting in increased polymer chain density and strength. As a result, drawn fibers exhibit enhanced and often preferable mechanical properties when compared to simple monofilaments.
The enhanced performance characteristics of drawn fibers allow their usage in a variety of demanding applications, ranging from bioabsorbable drawn fiber woven into sinus stents, to PEEK drawn fiber used as braided sleeving to protect wires and cables from abrasion and chafing. The chemical resistance of many of our drawn fiber resins also makes these products well-suited for filtration applications. With our capability to produce small fiber sizes, these products can be woven into a fine mesh for applications such as mist eliminators, liquid phase separation filters, scrubbers, and droplet control.
